Requirements for Refurbishing/Fabricating Parts

How can we track the costs to create or refurbish jetvac pumps that we reuse on future work orders?

Resolution/Fix/Answer

  1. Create a New Finished Goods Inventory Account (typically something in the 1000s) and assign the COS Edit Rule
    1. COS Edit Rule is required to link the Account to a Service Type Cost Type
  2. Create a Cost Type to represent the Labor and Minor Material costs to fabricate the Finished Good
  3. Create a Service Type for refurbished/fabricated items
    1. Make Earned = Billed so the work cost doesn’t calculate revenue
    2. Add #2 and link #1 on the cost type tab
  4. Charge Labor and Material to the WO created to refurbish/fabricate the good and use the #2 Cost Type
  5. When the Finished Good is used, transfer the WO Cost to the Material Cost Type on the appropriate WO

Optionally create WO Status Codes specifically for this process.  It might be helpful in building out a Workflow process.  The Product Id used to track the quantity of the goods will have zero cost because the cost is going to be on the work order.
