Manual Revenue Recognition on Job calculated unexpected earned amounts

Issue/Symptom/Question

We have some unexplained phenomena that we need figured out. We have a job that is setup to have manual rev rec only but for some reason, during our close, Penta calculated revenue for a non Manual Recognition line item for this job.

Environment

Penta for Windows

Setup Job Revenue Recognition Method:

Project Management > Jobs > Job Information - Other tab - Financial side-tab

Manual Revenue Recognition Entry:

Finance & Accounting > Data Entry > Revenue Recognition > Manual Cost/Revenue Recognition Entry

Process Revenue Recognition:

Finance & Accounting > Processing > Revenue Recognition

System Options:

System Management > Technical Support > Options

Resolution/Fix/Answer

For this job, the line item that calculated unexpectedly was a Cost Plus line item, all other line items were Lump Sum (including the manual rev rec line). Note, PENTA calculates revenue per line item type. System Option 90 - Manual Revenue Recognition Effect was set to 2. With this setting, the contract line item to which you enter the single job earned amount must be a cost plus contract line item and must be the highest numbered non-retention cost plus line item number.

The lump sum amount was calculated as well as, the cost plus amount.

Per the Penta Reference Manual:

  • If System Option #90 is set to N (it’s suppose to read 2), the contract line item to which you enter the single job earned amount must be a cost plus contract line item and must be the highest numbered non-retention cost plus line item number.

  • When calculating the adjusting entry to the contract line item for the Manual Revenue Recognition entry, PENTA considers earned amounts for lump sum and unit price contract line items. Since PENTA always processes cost plus contract line items after lump sum and unit price contract line items, lump sum and unit price line item numbers may be greater than the cost plus contract line item to which you entered the total job earned value.
