Unbalanced Document Error during Indirect Cost Allocations
Issue/Symptom/Question
During the Indirect Cost Allocation process the process stopped and showed an error message about an Unbalanced Document. There was no indication as to what is causing the problem.
Applies To
Indirect Cost Allocation Processing
Resolution/Fix/Answer
This error indicates that either the Allocate To or Applied Account has an Edit Rule associated with the Account #. The Edit Rule Accounts cannot have a Journal Entry made against them, and the Indirect Cost Allocation process is a journal entry to take the balance from one Account to another Account.
The Account that has the Edit Rule will need to be switched to a Non-Edit Rule Account in the Indirect Cost Allocation Setup, or the Edit Rule needs to be removed from the Account. Note: Edit Rules can only be removed from an Account when the balance of the Account is zero.
CauseÂ
An Account is created without an Edit Rule, is assigned to the Indirect Cost Allocation Rules as the Allocate To or Applied Account, and then the Account has an Edit Rule assigned.
