Improving the Payroll Distribution Process Speed

Issue/Symptom/Question

Significant delays in payroll processing while distribution takes place. Nearly 2 hour wait time in a time-sensitive process.

Applies To

Payroll/Payroll Check Processing/Distribute Timecards
Payroll/Centralized Payroll Check Processing/Centralized Timecard Distribution

Resolution/Fix/Answer

Limiting non-essential (non-payroll) processes to times when Payroll Processing is not in progress has shown the speed to improve, because the system is not competing for the same resources.

Cause

Non-Payroll processes running at the same time as the distribution process may significantly slow down the completion time of the distribution

Specifically, high processing CPU functions impacted the concurrent Payroll Distribution being run -

  • Example:  Customer Equipment Maintenance Schedule (consumes large number of computer resources and would slow down the payroll process when running concurrently)
