State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) setup for Pennsylvania (PA)
Issue/Symptom/Question
For the state of PA, SUI Rates and Limits configurations does not separate out the Employee versus Employer Wage Limits.Â
Applies To
Penta for Windows
Payroll > Setup > Taxes > State Codes
Payroll > Setup > Taxes > State Tax Information
Resolution/Fix/Answer
PENTA splits out State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) and State Unemployment Tax (SUT) which are effectively the same tax just different states use different names. SUT Wage Limit is set by Penta each EOY and can be checked in the State Codes screen in Payroll > Setup > Taxes > State Codes > State/Province tab.Â
Unemployment Tax (SUT) Wage Limit is set up in the State Codes:
Employer SUT Rates are set up via Payroll > Setup > Taxes > State Tax Information - SUT/FUT Rates tab. These rates are set up by our customers dependent on the documentation provided by the state of Pennsylvania.
Employee SUI Rates are set up via Payroll > Setup > Taxes > State Tax Information - SDI/SUI Rates/Limits tab. These rates are set up by our customers dependent on the documentation provided by the state of Pennsylvania. As of 1/1/2022, there is not employee wage limit for the employee tax calculated in Pennsylvania. Check the PA unemployment documentation on their website to make sure this is still correct.
