Error message: Unable to connect to the server

Issue/Symptom/Question

Mobile Field Service (MFS) device raises error message: "Unable to connect to the server."

Resolution/Fix/Answer

This error message indicates that a connection to the server was not stable. User taps OK and can move forward with work. MFS is able to run without a continuous connection. When a stable connection is established, any information will continue to sync for the user's device.

If connectivity does not successfully reconnect:

  • Verify Wi-Fi connection is stable
  • Verify Cellular connection is stable
  • Verify device is not in a low-coverage area

If this issue continues for multiple users please submit a Service Desk ticket and reference this article. Please include the following:

  • User IDs of all technicians affected
  • Date/Time of issue's occurrence 
  • Screenshots of errors
  • Steps taken that led to the issue

Cause 

It is a relatively standard error that can occur with a weak/inconsistent connection.
