Mobile Field Service (MFS) Updates and Compatibility

Issue/Symptom/Question

How does MFS receive minor updates?

How do devices get these releases? Is is automatic or a manual process?

What versions of Penta for Windows (PFW) is each version of MFS compatible with?

Does every update to an MFS version require us to push a “new app” down to our devices?

Resolution/Fix/Answer

How do devices get these releases? Through Apple Business Manager distribution. https://pentatech.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KCSLIVE/pages/2687339/Enroll+in+the+Apple+Business+Manager

Is it an automatic or a manual process? This is a manual process.

  • Penta 26.1 is compatible with MFS 26.1

  • Penta 25.1 and earlier are compatible with MFS 25.1

Once there’s an update to a version, you just have to accept it and release it to your technicians. No need to have them un-install and re-install the app. The only time you need to push a new app is if a new version is to be installed (example going from 25.1 to 26.1)

Once you have initially downloaded the main app version (in this case 25.1.x - anything previous to 25.1.9.1) using the Apple Business Manager, you do not have to re-download it using the Apple Business Manager.

If you’ve already pushed the initial main version (in this case 25.1.x - anything previous to 25.1.9.1) to your technicians, and we make any updates to this version, your technicians will use the standard app store process to update the application. Most of our customers use a Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution to manage and push these updates to the technicians. Some customers push the updates per tech, other just push an update after XX days.
