Group/User Security Overview

Group/User Security Overview

Issue/Symptom/Question

I am looking for a Knowledge Base article for the overall design of security groups, module security, menu security and how each fits together.

Penta for Windows

PENTA Menu

PENTA Navigator

System Management > Security > Security Groups

System Management > Security > Define Users

Resolution/Fix/Answer

PENTA user security revolves around Security Groups and Users. A user can belong to multiple groups, gaining access from all of them cumulatively.

Security Groups manage access to windows and module settings. Window level access controls viewing and opening Penta windows and reports (Menu Items). Module Security settings enable actions like viewing timecard batches or distributing journal entries.

The Define Users window creates users and assigns Security Groups, allowing overrides for Module Security settings set by the Security Groups. Organizational Unit (OU) authorization limits Security Group access to specific OUs. Any changes made to the User’s security in this window overrides access granted by the Security Groups window.
