When cancelling job setup for auto-assigned jobs

Issue/Symptom/Question

  • We were entering a new job (ie 12001) and we had to cancel the job setup
  • A few minutes later we went to add the new job but the job number did not auto number to the same job id (ie. 12002)
  • What happened to the previous job number? (ie 12001)

Environment

  • Option #3 -  Penta auto-assigns a job id, sequentially
  • Job Information window

Resolution/Fix/Answer

  • The first thing PENTA does when a user goes to create a job is grab the next job number available
  • PENTA stores the next available number in the database
  • When PENTA grabs that number, the table automatically rolls to the next number in case another user, 1 second later, starts to create another job
  • When a job is cancelled, PENTA does not try to go back and use cancelled or deleted job numbers as it could cause more problems if out of sequence
