Missing setup for NJ-FLI, YYYY/MM/DD, st/pr NJ

Environment

Penta for Windows

Path to setup the taxes: Payroll > Setup > Taxes > Payroll Tax Maintenance

Resolution/Fix/Answer

Verify the NJ-FLI payroll tax is completely set up in the Payroll > Setup > Taxes > Payroll Tax Maintenance. Refer to state publications for rate, limit, and general information regarding New Jersey's paid family leave insurance program.

Steps to setup the NJ-FLI payroll tax:

  1. On the General tab, execute a query for Tax Type code NJ-FLI. PENTA returns the record for the New Jersey Paid Family Leave tax type.
  2. Click on Accrual and Expense Accounts in the menu tree. PENTA displays the Accrual and Expense accounts page for Tax Type Code NJ-FLI.
  3. In the Legal Entity OU ID field, enter the ID of a Legal Entity for which you withhold NJ-FLI premiums from employees. PENTA displays the Legal Entity’s name in the adjacent field.
  4. Enter the Accrual Account you use for tax type NJ-FLI (such as your paid family leave insurance expense account). PENTA displays the account name in the adjacent field.
  5. If the account entered in the Accrual Account field is an AP Edit Rule account, enter the associated accounts payable vendor in the Vendor ID field. PENTA displays the vendor’s name in the adjacent field.
  6. For each Legal Entity for which you process NJ-FLI, insert a record in the Legal Entity block and repeat steps 1.3 to 1.5.
  7. Click on Rates in the menu tree. PENTA displays the Rates page for Tax Type Code NJ-FLI and displays NJ in the State/Province field.
  8. Enter the Effective date of the rate.
  9. Enter the Annual Earnings Limit.

NOTE: Entering the Annual Earnings Limit aides PENTA in withholding the correct total amount of tax when pay periods are irregular, such as when a year has 53 pay weeks instead of 52 or when employees earn bonus or commission income. For NJ-FLI, the Annual Earnings Limit value is the annualized (multiplied by 52) average weekly earnings limit.

  1. Enter the Employee Rate
  2. Optionally, click on Union Exemptions in the menu tree. PENTA displays the Union Exemptions page for Tax Type Code NJ-FLI.
    1. In the Union # field, enter the number of a NJ union exempt from NJ-FLI. PENTA displays the union name in the adjacent field.
  3. Close the window.

Cause
