PRP009 SQL MD = Invalid W/H state code for Maryland error

Issue/Symptom/Question

We received the attached PR processing error when processing bonus checks. We entered a state withholding state of MD for Maryland and should have entered MDNR.

Error detected. Please call your Penta account representative.

Resolution/Fix/Answer

Maryland Payroll taxes are set up differently than other states. For the employees that need to be taxed in Maryland (either living or working), you need to set up these tax codes. Also, you’ll have to set these codes up in the Payroll > Setup > State Tax Information window. The codes are hard-coded and available to select from the list of values.

You would need to select the tax rate that is greater than or equal to the rate for the county the employee lives in. See the example setup for one of our other customer’s payroll window:
