Why are the Wages Subject to WC less than total wages on the WC Wage reports?

Why are the Wages Subject to WC less than total wages on the WC Wage reports?

Issue/Symptom/Question

On the Worker's Comp Wage Detail Smy (WCWAGESSMY) and Wage Details (WCWAGES) reports, the total wages are different than the Wages subject to WC, and they should be the same. Need to know why they are different

Environment

WC Taxability setup; Payroll / Setup / Deductions/Reimbursements/Other Compensation, Taxable/Non-Taxable tab

Resolution/Fix/Answer

When a deduction is set up with a default of Before Tax, or an override of a tax type to Before Tax, Penta will reduce the employee's earnings before applying these taxes or insurance amounts

If you've determined that the total wages should equal the wages subject to WC, review all of your deductions, reimbursements, and other compensation master screens, to determine if you will need to add an override State Exception record to all Before tax deductions for the WC Tax Type.

If there are Reimbursements that are assigned to these employees (or entered as One-Time reimbursements) that should be subject to WC, you will need to change all Reimbursements that have been set to a default of After taxes are calculated, to include a WC tax type exception of "B"efore.

Cause

Incorrect setup of WC taxability
