Resolution/Fix/Answer

Q) Oracle Server is being upgraded from Oracle 11.2 to Oracle 12 for the PENTA Upgrade. Do I need to upgrade Oracle Client from 11.2 to Oracle 12?

A) No, upgrading Oracle Client is optional. The minimal Oracle Client version is 11.2

Q) Can I use the PPI to install Oracle 12 Client?

A) Yes. The PPI can be used to install the Oracle 12 Instant Client

On the PPI menu bar select File > Install Oracle Client

Q) Can I use the PPI to create ODBC entries?

A) Yes

On the PPI menu bar select File > Launch ODBC Administrator (32-bit)

Q) If I’m installing the OnBase Client, what info do I use when creating the ODBC entry(ies)?

A) Create the ODBC entry(ies) under the System DSN Tab and use the Oracle in OracleClient32 driver

Data source name: TEST_H (for the TEST Database) PROD_H (for the PROD DB)

Description: TEST_H (for the TEST Database) PROD_H (for the PROD DB)

TNS Service Name: TEST_H (for the TEST Database) PROD_H (for the PROD DB)

User ID: hsi

Q)  I don’t see the Oracle in OracleClient32 listed as a driver when trying to create an ODBC entry

A) Run C:\OracleClient32\odbc_install.exe. Right mouse click on odbc_install.exe and select Run as administrator

Q) Do I need to download configuration files when upgrading PENTA for Windows (PfW)?

A) You only need to download configuration files if:

A new Linux Server is part of the PENTA Upgrade

A new Database Server is part of the PENTA Upgrade

A new or temporary Database was setup for testing PENTA

Q) Do all the Environment Variables fields need to have value?

A) The TNS_ADMIN and PENTA.INI environment variables need to be to set.

The TNS_ADMIN value should be set to the location of Oracle Client’s configuration file (tnsnames.ora)

If you installed Oracle Instant Client using the PPI, the TNS_ADMIN value would be: C:\OracleClient32

If you have the full Oracle 11.2 Client installed, the TNS_ADMIN value would be: C:\oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\network\admin

If you have the full Oracle 12.1 Client installed, the TNS_ADMIN value would be: C:\oracle\product\12.1.0\client_1\network\admin

The PENTA.INI value should be set to the location of the PENTA for Windows configuration file (penta.ini) and include the penta.ini file name.

Example: c:\program files (x86)\Penta Technologies, Inc.\PENTA for Windows\penta.ini

Q) Can I use the PPI to install and/or upgrade the Hyland/OnBase Client software?

A) No. The Hyland/OnBase Client software needs to be manually uninstalled and reinstalled

The exception is the Hyland Unity Client. Click once deployment will automatically upgrade the Hyland Unity Client. The Click once deployment is executed by using Internet Explorer, not the PPI.
