Overview:
The Product Information window lets you enter, modify, or view an inventory item that is either:
- Sold using the Sales Order Entry window.
- Purchased using the Purchase Order Information window.
- Transferred using the Inventory Transfer window.
Products must exist in this window before you can associate them with transactions. Product Ids provide consistency for how you describe materials. If you have different people requesting materials, it is easier for the Purchasing department when there is a common description used to identify the needed materials. Slight variations in description could lead to acquisition of incorrect materials, particularly if you purchase from a pool with tens of thousands of products.
Entering product information here does not produce accounting entries; you must initiate entries to generate an inventory subledger account balance via the Purchase Order Receipt or Inventory Transfer windows.

- Enables tracking of inventory
- Can be used to provide default data-points when creating Purchase Orders
